The first 1802 bridge was washed away and a new one constructed in 1810. This bridge between Fairlee and Orford remained uncovered until 1856. The new covered bridge was built by James F. Tasker and Bela J. Fletcher who used the Town lattice truss system with a single pier support in the center. In 1894, the town purchased the bridge for $5,600 dollars and tolls were no longer charged.
