Tollhouse | |
|
In the nineteenth century, after crossing the uncovered bridge from Fairlee, one would have seen a very small tollhouse on the left. This structure was eventually replaced by a small house that faced Bridge Street. After 1894 and the removal of tolls altogether, this house was turned around to face an easterly direction and eventually divided into two sections. The recent renovation of the Samuel Morey Bridge (2003) required the removal of one section of the tollhouse (moved to Route 25A in Orfordville). The other section still remains near its original site. | |
