Britton Law Office and Home

Abiathar Britton built this brick office building in 1835. Next to the office is a similar looking structure built in 1831 that served as Britton’s home. Britton’s office was later used by the Orford Congregational Church as a parsonage.

The Britton House

The frame house on this site burned in 1830 and, although the records are unclear, a Britton child may have perished in the fire. The new house is designed with a door for escape on every side of the house. Abiathar Britton was a member of the New Hampshire state Senate from 1817-1818 and a lawyer for a number of Orford’s residents including Samuel Morey.
