| The Hinkley-Bissel House was finished in 1824 and is the only other house on the Ridge built of brick from the local brickyard. It was built by Dyar Hinckley, who was a merchant and ran a small store on the west side of the main street. Mr. Hinckley died in 1834 and the property was purchased by Edward Bissell. It is said that most people on the Ridge were somehow related. In the case of Edward Bissell, his mother was Israel Morey's daughter. The centennial report describes Bissell as a man “prominent in mercantile business”. |
