Milliners Shop and Orford Social Library |
|
The Millinery shop was built in 1840 and run by Mrs. Fifield, who had a house near the shop (taken down in 1897). Although a millinery often refers specifically to women's hats, milliners also sold fabric, clothing and other items and would sometimes employ individuals to design and make dresses and fill other requests. After occupying the top of the Wheeler Store and other locations, the Orford Social Library purchased the building in 1907.
