Tillotson Family

As you progress right along Townshed Road, you are passing through a large parcel of property once owned by the Tillotson family. Daniel Tillotson, Sr. settled in Orford in 1770 about the same time as his son Daniel, Jr. arrived. The Tillotsons were descendants of the Archbishop of Canterbury, John Tillotson, a well-known religious figure in the Church of England who served during the reign of Charles II. Daniel Tillotson Sr. had eight children. Daniel Jr. married Mary Sawyer and had ten children. One of their sons, Daniel Frye Tillotson, was born in 1815 on the same farm occupied by his father and grandfather. Farm todayenlarge
